A Horror Story

This past week has gone by fast in some ways and slow in others. But I am happy it’s over, and I have a shorter week ahead of me. I took off one day to work on my paper, and I honestly don’t know if I’m going to have enough time. Hopefully, two extra days will help. I still have a little over a book and a half to read. But, I know what I’m going to do it on, so apparently that’s better than what other students have.

So, I survived the week, I froze many times, and I have read a lot. It’s been busy. Today I’ve put on my very fuzzy socks, I have a fleece blanket with sleeves that has a name better than that arriving today, and I have a device that I can put on my thumb and it’ll hold the book open. It also has a name that I can’t think of. But, I get bookmarks with it, which I really need.

I am settling into my new role as a student. I’m getting used to reading constantly, and I’m enjoying a lot of it. Most of what I’m reading is something I’d never normally pick and I’m getting caught up in the story. I haven’t figured out if I’ll still read a lot while on winter break, but for now, I’m reading more than I have in a long time. I’m also watching a lot less television, not a bad thing. It allows me to enjoy what I’m watching more, I think.

Other than Scarlett turning 9, nothing new has happened. I have used my new tablet a lot, actually, every day. I have slept better. I have been enjoying life more. I’m more relaxed, I feel like things are clicking into place and I’m finding my balance. Maybe that’s just this week, but I’m succeeding and it feels good. It could also be that I finished my short story and I like it. I have some questions about it, but I like it.

My story is about a man who winds up in an ancient medicinal shop. He has no clue what he’s stepped into. He figures it out. It’s a horror piece, which I have only tried writing twice before and I think I failed both times. I’ve changed since my attempts and so has my writing. We’ll see in about a week and a half what people think. I also think I’m going to use it for my final creative writing project.

Time to get back to reading.
