Sunshine and Mozzarella Sticks

My days have been filled with working in a pharmacy while my nights and weekends have been filled with budgeting, phone calls, and homework. Every once in a while things change and something is thrown in such as a meeting or shopping trip. Yesterday was one of those days.

I had an interesting trip to the vet with my dog. She’s fine, just allergy issues. She was very well behaved and for once, happily stepped on the scale and stayed until I told her to get off. She normally steps on and wants off immediately. She didn’t try and attack anyone and she was very good. She did stink up the car a few times on the way there though.

What the best part of the day came after that. I drove an hour away and spent a few hours outside on a nice day with my nephew. We played one of the Clued Up games and it was nice, quality time with him before he goes off to college. We also had fun and looked slightly like idiots in the process. We had our phones out and worked on the riddles or games, walking a lot. There were other people out doing it so we weren’t alone in the fun.

We had one issue where there was a Christian gathering on anti-gay/trans. There was also a peaceful protest of people holding pride flags during the testimonials and music. This is a touchy subject and my viewpoint on it is, you do you. You do what makes you happy. If you aren’t happy with the body you’re in and want to change it, go ahead. If you are in a happy and healthy relationship, go ahead and be happy. As long as there is nothing illegal going on, you go and be you. I’ll support you as long as you’re happy. I am also Christian and believe in God’s love of everyone.

Now that that’s all settled, one of our checkpoints was right in the middle of the demonstration. We tried walking around the crowd, hoping we could get it, but by the end of the geographic end, we were about to walk away and try again later, not wanting to be part of the gathering, when it finally picked it up and we were able to see that part of the game.

In all of the walking around I was able to see parts of the city I’d never noticed before, even if I’d been there many, many times. A beautiful memorial to fallen police officers and firefighters, the beautiful flowers, and the grass you want to roll around in.

At the end of the game our legs hurt and we were right on the killer, just didn’t guess the reason for it. We had fun and that’s what matters. We wobbled our way back to the car and headed home with the radio blasting. We had a blast though and if I had the funds to spare I would do it again with him.

I think the best part of the day came next. We are both gluten-free and not by choice. There is a place that has fried chicken that’s gluten-free and they just added mozzarella sticks to the menu. I was so happy almost jumping for joy when I heard this. So we stopped on the way home. He went gluten-free when he was a toddler so he’s never had them before. I was 18 so I knew. And I missed them. He bit into one and moaned. After three he said he should probably stop because he doesn’t tolerate dairy (he hadn’t told me this before). He then reached in after eating his chicken for number four. When I bit into it I was close to moaning and honestly, if I had been alone I probably would have. They weren’t the same as I remember because they didn’t have the same batter, but they were crispy and crunchy and had the perfect cheese pull. They were amazing.

So I can’t tell you what the best part of the day was, the mozzarella sticks or the game. All I can say is that it was a good day away from schoolwork and stress. I was able to let loose and have fun. I need many, many more days like that.
